In the endless flow of Fuzhou's traffic, the cabin of online car-hailing driver Master Chen always resonates with classical music, and occasionally the faint scent of ink lingers. This "slash driver" who wields a brush in daily life and holds the steering wheel in his free time fills the gullies of life with scenery through a composed attitude.
Born in 1981, Master Chen is a full-time oil painting teacher specializing in classical figures. He trains art exam students on weekends and transforms into an online car-hailing driver on weekdays. He jokingly calls driving a "forced transition," but his eyes light up when talking about this side job. Thus, the car cabin becomes his mobile parlor—there's no conversation he can't start, whether about music, art, or daily life. While earning a steady income, he stays in high spirits, later finding it hard to part with the industry.
This issue of Xidi User Stories takes us into the world of Master Chen, the "artist on wheels," to explore his dual life.
Are you a full-time driver?
I'm more of a part-timer. I'm a painter by trade, and I teach art exam students on weekends. From Monday to Friday, when I have free time, I drive.
So you run a studio while driving?
Yes. Managing the studio doesn't take too much time. I usually get up at 5 AM to charge the car, finish by 7 PM after the evening rush hour, so I have plenty of time for driving.
I see you have calligraphy tools here—are you both a painter and calligrapher? My major is oil painting, focusing on classical figures, but I've loved calligraphy since childhood, especially Wang Xizhi's
Lanting Xu (Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection).

You paint and practice calligraphy—what made you start driving online car-hailing? Was there a particular opportunity?
Good question. Anyone who delivers food or drives online usually does so out of necessity. We might have had our glory days and made good money, but ultimately, we need to survive. As a painter, I can't do manual labor, but I can drive and chat. Wandering outside every day keeps me happy, and I earn a daily income. Later, I found myself reluctant to quit.
Your demeanor reminds me of what's called "a sense of vibrant aliveness" online.Life is rich. The soul-searching question is: what's the meaning of life? We all end the same, but can we enjoy the journey? Driving has become a process I truly enjoy. Many talk about mindset or positivity, but maintaining that positivity at its best requires constant effort.

What do you think our company does well? Any suggestions?
Xixiangfeng's Xidi is fair—it prioritizes protecting drivers' rights. Whether in car rentals or traffic accidents, responsibilities are clearly defined, unlike some companies that leave ambiguities. If my car needs repairs for 3-4 days, with a certificate from a 4S shop or garage, the company extends the rental period—this is excellent. Non-human-induced damages are repaired for free. Clear rules create a healthy environment where drivers are motivated to work. That's why I like our company.

As twilight spills through the car window, Master Chen turns toward his studio. He says life is like driving: the destination is the same, but the scenery is a choice. Perhaps this choice is what makes his wheels and brush equally passionate.

Wheels roll, carrying the flavor of life; ink flows, writing composure. In Master Chen's dual life, we see a truth—no matter the path, passion lights the way. And Xidi Auto stands as the solid support behind this composure.
A good platform isn't just cold rules; it's about making every driver feel secure and fairly compensated. Xidi safeguards every driver with transparent services and humanized policies—from clear responsibility division to thoughtful maintenance support, flexible rent waivers, and efficient customer service. Whether behind the wheel or chasing artistic dreams, Xidi walks alongside every strivers. Because we believe: every journey deserves kindness, and every effort deserves to be seen.
